Socks with high-tech fibres

Modern Socks from FALKE, Rohner or Thorlo are often made from a blend of traditional (Cotton or Wool) and innovative fabrics like KEVLAR®, COOLMAX® and GORE-TEX®. These modern and artificially made fibres are usually added to create a sock, which has excellent wearing comfort and supportive qualities.

Modern Fabrics for socks

Developments in technology have created modern fabrics with suitable properties. These new fibres allow innovative solutions for socks to support specific purposes and durability. They are frequently used in the production of Sport Socks

Elastane is highly elastic and ensures a maximum of wearing comfort. It has a close and wrinkle-free fit. The durability of Elastane make it ideal for use in high-performance sports socks and to support a sock's stress zones - like the heel and toe area.

The Polyamide fibre greatly increases the comfort and durability of socks. The material is breathable and easy to care for.

GORE-TEX takes the entire foot-sock-shoe system into account. Working in cooperation with the textile industry, Gore has developed material mixes designed for optimal comfort. Therefore, 2-layer socks are a real must when using the Gore-Tex® system. The first layer of the sock next to the skin wicks the moisture away from the skin into the second layer, which is made of a fibre with high permeability and water absorbency properties. The foot remains dry and the excess moisture can escape through the membrane of the Gore shoe.

COOLMAX is a heavy-duty fibre that provides optimal comfort for all seasons. It is soft and requires a minimum of care. COOLMAX has a great capacity of leading moisture away. It dries very fast, which makes an excellent fibre for any Trekking and outdoor socks. The COOLMAX fibre does not swell up and remains pleasantly soft.

TEFLON is being used to treat wool and cotton fabrics to make it maximum water and stain repellent without affecting the breathability.

KEVLAR is a silky and soft artificial fiber which is stronger than steel. It combines strength with lightness. Kevlar is also fire resistant.

The high-tech fibre PROFILEN has extremely good gliding properties. It is non-flammable, repels dirt and water and is skin neutral. Socks reinforced with Profilen® are resistant and protect the wearer against blisters, as the material does not cause rubbing. This fibre also has excellent insulating properties.

X-STATIC is a fiber made with layer of 99,9% pure silver, which is permanently bonded to the surface of a textile fiber. It has been used primarily as an industrial and medical product, servicing high-tech industries and the Department of Defense. More recently it has been thrust into consumer product markets as a result of the need for a safe, natural and effective antimicrobial solution. X-static is a fiber antimicrobial, all natural, heat transfer, anti-static and therapeutic.
